The mission of Matrisangha Janakalyan Ashram is service to mankind . It is focused on serving the nation and humanity through its service to the down trodden, the afflicted and challenged section of our human society.
Gurudev Shri Shri Sudhin Kumar Mitra said that to climb the ladder of spirituality , Service to mankind is the 1st step,…. it’s the primary class . He inculcated in his devotee’s and followers the spirit of caring and service for the mankind & humanity.

Healthcare:
The healthcare services are rendered through the polyclinic & medical centres at Kolkata, & Siliguri. Apart from Kolkata and Siliguri there are small medical centres in Jalpaiguri, Malbazar etc.
The services that Matrisangha Janakalyan Ashram offers are purely philanthropic and absolutely not for profit. A very nominal and notional amount is accepted as donation from those that can afford to pay and for those that are not in a position to pay for the services its offered free including Medicines and tests etc.
The Doctors attending the clinic offer voluntary service and offer their service to mankind as their own way of participating in this great effort to alleviate human suffering and pain. Many of the doctors had met Gurudev in his lifetime and where inspired by him to do their bit for humanity.
Matrisangha Janakalyan Ashram’s medical facilities are enjoyed by a cross section of the society right from the poorest to low and middle income group of people.
The medical centres in Kolkata and Siliguri have the following facilities

Matrisangha Janakalyan Ashram participates in the various health programs that are initiated by the Health dept like the Children immunization programs of offering Polio vaccine, various immunization injections and prescribed tests.
In this context its pertinent to mention that it has embarked upon a massive drive along with the Kolkata Police to have regular health check-up of street children and Children of persons in the various jails/ correctional homes. This program is called Nabadisha.
A snapshot of patients that we have covered in various years, We humbly state that between 2003 to 2009 we have covered 75000 patients. Considering that Matrisangha started its Medical centres in Kolkata and Siliguri in 1984…we have covered more than 200000 ( two hundred thousand) patients.
Mobile clinic
One of the important and critical aspect of Matrisangha’s healthcare service to the society is to reach out to the various rural areas of West Bengal , India and provide quality medical services to them. This includes health check up by doctors from various disciplines, pathology tests and providing medicines.
In its effort to deliver quality medical care, a particular area is taken up and the health camp is sustained over a period of time .
Our panel of doctors, along with a fully equipped Ambulance which includes pathology test facility and necessary medicines facilitate the delivery of Mobile clinics and health camps.
Some the villages that has been covered through the mobile clinic are Bamnghata,Dariknagar,Hotor, Gobindapore Brajaballavpur etc.
Always in readiness
Matrisangha is always in the look out for working with various social welfare organisation and govt departments to deliver medical and health care services to the weaker section of the society.
Blood donation:
Gurudev insisted in his satsang’s that all his followers as well appealed to individuals to donate blood atleast once a year. He said a little of our blood can save a precious life and bring a smile and joy to a family. He also reasoned that blood donated under special medical care is not risk but a helps blood cell rejuvenation in the human body.
Matrisangha organises blood donations on the occasions of Gurudev’s birthday, Gurupurnima and Mahalaya . Across its various units Matrisangha helps to collect over 1000 bottles a year. Matrisanga Janakalyan Ashram works with various accredited blood banks to have the blood collected and stored. The Blood cards received against the blood donated is used to serve the needy who are unable to buy blood for the treatments of their near and dear ones.
Education:
Gurudev Shri Shri Sudhin Kumar Mitra championed the cause of providing education for all , he himself had to face many difficulties and financial impediments in his quest for education. Hence he was particularly keen that Matrisangha Janakalyan Ashram provides financial assistance to those who are having difficulty in supporting their education expenses.
Matrisangha focuses on reaching out to the schools and asking for the names of students that the school endorses for providing financial assistance. It provides the schoold/collage fees and cost of the books as well as various examination fees.
Applications are also received at Matrisnagha unit offices and centres from individuals requesting financial support for education. Based on these applications and names submitted by various schools and collages the stipends are awarded 2-3 times a year. From 1984 to 2010 we would have covered 50000+ Students.
Higher Education and professional courses
It help individuals grow and prosper and contribute to the society it is imperative that each Indian needs to get higher education and register for professional courses like Medicine , engineering and Biotech etc.
Matrisangha is sponsoring number of students to pursue their higher studies and professional courses.
Matrisangha is pursuing to expand and augment it educational services by including education of street, slum children as well children of persons in correctional homes.
Matrisangha also offers other necessary support to students like sponsoring their fooding
and dress etc,
The effort is to provide an encompassing support to the needy students. As well as increasingly get more children to pursue and complete their education.
Disaster Relief
India and specially West Bengal is prone to Cyclones and floods….under the influence of nature’s furry human beings and animals face intense suffering.
During such calamities Matrsangha Janakalyan Ashram makes its best efforts to be with the suffering beings and provide them with assistance and help.
During Calamities Matrisangha sends a team of people and provides the following assistance
- Food
- Medicines
- Clothing
- Materials for temporary Shelter
- Building temporary /disaster Shelters
- Where ever possible it even sets up health Camps/temporary clinic to prevent epidemics.
In the recent Aila ( Cyclone in West Bengal Sunderban areas) affected areas of Namkhana and Rakashkali Matrisangha provided Disaster Relief and set up Health Camps to mitigate the risk of Epidemic. Relief was provided to about 1000+ families.
Closure of Tea gardens in North Bengal:
In north Bengal number of tea gardens have closed down leaving their workers in dire straits . Matrisangha Kalyan Ashram’s North Bengal units of Siliguri, Jalpaiguri is providing support to these displaced workers. Both Temporary financial assistance as well finding alternative job search and building necessary skills for the same are some the ways that Matrisangha Janakalyan Ashram is holding hands and providing support.
Care for the Elderly and Children
Matrisangha is a source of help and support for many elderly persons who have to stay alone in the city since there children are away either staying different cities or abroad. Matrisangha Janakalyan Ashram members and volunteers support them with regular visit, medical assistance when needed and importantly make them feel that they have someone to rely on and ask for assistance.
Matrisangha in association with Sadrang ( a Hindustani classical forum) provides medical assistance to senior Musicians…..this is a much appreciated by our senior artists.
Matrisangha is the preliminary stages of setting up an old age home in siliguri.
One of Gurudev shri Shri Sudhin Kumar Mitra’s dream and vision was to build a quality old age home and along with build an orphanage. He said the elderly will take care of the Children and shower them with love affection and guidance which is so very critical to build up a good human being. In turn Children with their affection and company will help to fill the void in the lives of those staying in the old age home.
Legal services
In association with NALSA ( National Legal Services Authority) Matrisangha is helping to spread the awareness of legal rights specifically with regards protection of Women and children. It runs classes for barefoot lawyers which are conducted NALSA and lectures are delivered by renowned lawyers . Regular counselling is provided to those that need assistance on understanding various legal rights and protections one can get.
Matrisangha Janakalyan Ashram participates in various healthcare and children welfare programs that our run by directorate of Prisons. Recently Matrisangha conducted a health check for prisoners and prepared to a health card for them.
The resources for the above mentioned benevolent activities are raised purely from donation received and support from few social welfare groups. |
